Description
« Igitwariro » (which means « head » in Kinyarwanda) explores the deep trust that children place in their mothers and ancestors. This painting symbolizes the influence that those we trust can have on our lives—both positively and negatively—through the time and space we give them in our minds.
In the composition, a blurred female figure gently tends to a young girl’s hair. The obscured presence of the woman represents the unseen guidance, care, and power that mothers or ancestors hold over us. The young girl, fully entrusting her to shape and care for her, embodies the vulnerability and faith that children have in those who nurture them.
